TBA Review: Crysis 3

Crysis 3 is a futuristic Science Fiction First Person Shooter (FPS) set 24 years after the 2nd game and is set in New York 2.0, which compared to the original New York is an upgrade. Instead of busy streets everywhere and various amounts of tall buildings, the city has lots of overgrowth. As in the 2nd game, you fight against the C.E.L.L Corporation and also the alien Ceph race. You fill the role of Laurence Barnes, whose call name is Prophet, which he is called throughout the game. Even though you play the game as Prophet, your character is in an enhanced Nano suit of both human and alien upgrades. If you have not played any of the other Crysis games, there is an on disc movie that shows you the backstory of the events in Crysis 1 and 2. The story itself is mainly an action drama, but there is a humor part to it and the story is extremely deep. The campaign is a bit short, with the game taking me 11 hours to complete it. The side missions do not seem like they have any impact on the missions other than extending them.

In the game, you can use both the Human and Ceph weapons. My favorite Ceph weapon is the Reaper Cannon due to the rapid fire shooting that can be done with it. My least favorite Ceph weapon is the Incinerator due to how often I found it (once). Even though the game is primarily an action game, you can use stealth at any time, as long as your Nano suit has energy, which auto recharges. If you want to have all action, there is also an armor feature that uses the same energy as the stealth. If you choose to use stealth, the kills by use of stealth are very satisfying. If you choose to have it an action game, the melee kills are just as satisfying.

During the game, there are multiple times you can hack in game to obtain other weapons and suit upgrades. You can further upgrade the purchased upgrades by doing various tasks stated in the suit upgrade menu. Along with suit upgrades, you can hack into enemy turrets as well and turn the tables on your opponents. In order to hack, you have to match the wave frequency, which for the most part is very simple.

The controls are for the most part very well done. The only major issues I had was holding the back button for weapon customization, and just pressing the back button for suit upgrades. The other main control complaint I have is the ending, the controls feel very floaty. The map seemed very vague on where mission objectives were and only gave a general idea on where you had to be.
Something that I thought was unique and different was there is a side achievement for doing a certain actions during the mission (for example, shooting down the helicopter at the beginning of the game with the bow).

The graphics are well above the industry standard and the physics are very well done as well. The best part of the game for me was the music. I felt that every song fit where it was used.

The multi-player aspect can be brutal for new players, but Crytek has a simple solution. There are servers specifically made for users in Death Match and Team Death Match modes in which level 10 or lower ranked players can participate. There are also two different Capture the Points modes, and also a Maximum Damage Death Match and Team Death Match modes included on the Crysis 3 disc.

I put this game as a 8/10. Crysis 3 is out for the PS3, Xbox 360 (which was used for this review), and also for PC. It was developed by Crytek UK and Crytek Frankfurt and produced by EA.
